This house is set on a rectangular plot of 5000 square feet in Vadodara. It is a pure play of massing; highlighted by straight lines, protruding terraces and arched facade. The built form and greenery are dispersed equally along the site creating interesting spaces. The linearity of subtle beige walls is juxtaposed by the dark sloping roofs, creating an unusual matrix in the elevation.
The family had simple requirements. In addition to the four bedrooms, they wanted a home theatre, a lift, and spaces which exhibit openness. They wished to have designed outdoor spaces; connected with the inside. They showed complete faith on us. So when we got this project, the interior was a blank white canvas; which we had the freedom to paint as per our taste.
Managing to retain the original facade and structure, we made the necessary changes. By intelligent spatial planning and apt material usage, we tried to bring in maximum natural light. Once our painting was taking a definite shape, we blurred the boundaries between the inside and the outside. We achieved this by opening up the living room to the garden, providing a patio framing the water body, artistically designing terraces and balconies of all bedrooms and smartly converting the car porch into a landscaped sit-out space. This connection is further enhanced by exploring materials - STONE, WOOD & METAL in the most creative ways.
The entrance door to the house, with its GEOMETRIC & MINIMALISTIC design, stands as a brief to the entire design concept. Hues of white, brown and grey set a neutral domain for the house. Each space is accentuated by a different colour palette, used in the most elegant and minimalistic way, creating gentle milieu. With utter clarity, we came up with a design philosophy which accolades the house's architecture and worked out the smallest furniture piece before starting comprehensive execution.
Living, kitchen, dining and puja put up an interesting play of teal and grey furnishings; spread over a splendid moor of white Italian flooring. This flooring adds spaceousness, and the furniture adds uniqueness to the spaces. The furniture here is selected with utmost care and customised conceptually. The rear wall in the living room; has an interesting composition of platters, delineating abstractions from stories of Lord Shiva. The partition door of the puja room, with it's intricate metal jaali work, cast dramatic shadows.
The folded concrete staircase, with it's wooden treads, bind the profuse layers of public spaces on various floors and unfolds them further. It is an art piece in itself, highlighted by composition of human sculptures. These pocket-sized sculptures, compliment the organic lamp in metal set above the dining area, and are inspired by day to day life experiences.
All bedrooms narrate a story of their own. They are a reflection of their users. The parent’s bedroom depict their simplicity. Rhythmic patterns in wood create an effortless charm in this room. The master bedroom with its framed views, picturesque play of metal & wood and hemmed sit-outs, creates it's own language. We have tried to create a symmetric drama in this room, keeping the two-poster bed in focus. The flow of wood, from it's inclined ceiling to the back wall, and the warm lighting, completes the cameo.
The automated system in the entire house adds a new dimension to the design. The morphosized flooring in the daughter's room, puts the wooden four poster hanging bed in spotlight. This bed, hangs by the wall and is well complimented by other furniture pieces. The rotating volta chair is another interesting element in this room. It adds a splash of brightness to an otherwise subtle expanse. The monochromatic furniture in son's bedroom unfurls on the wooden floor, creating the intended contemporary look. An array of schematic patterns unfold in this room, anchoring the same.
We have designed bathrooms as places to unwind and rebounce with energy. Unlike other houses, where a luxurious master bathroom is designed; paying little importance to others, we have developed each bathroom with utmost care and designed them to be the comfort zones equipped with facilities to dress to our best.
Designing this house has been a journey. A journey of painting a blank canvas with layers of materials, a journey of exploring newer details and finally our canvas is ready. Completed by copious artworks, paintings and sculptures custom made by artists of Vadodara to match our concept, this house sets in motion, a chain of experiences for the users.
