Two good friends decided to build an apartment instead of a bungalow, having their pent houses side by side and with all facilities like ample parking, swimming pool, gym, recreational area and terrace garden. Located within a gated community, the square shaped plot of this residence abuts the road on southern side. Based on the client’s requirement, our approach was to design a simple & minimal house with specific emphasis on natural light, ventilation and greenery. The choice of materials for construction was influenced by using natural materials to keep it sustainable.
Our approach was to create a home rather than an apartment building, so designed a layout that accommodated the requirements of the client while also establishing an experience with a sense of openness to create a balance of connectivity and privacy. The south façade was kept almost entirely plain in solid brick mass with small openings in form of brick jali to avoid the harsh sun. Both the corner of an apartment have voids of double height balconies to enjoy the view and sit out. The apartment houses swimming pool, gym, recreational area in basement, parking on ground, guest rooms on first floors and two pent houses side by side starting from second floor. The open floor plan of pent house which consists of a living, dining, kitchen and four bedrooms are spread across three floors. The top floor has common terrace garden between both the pent houses.
Each Pent house has living and dining spaces that open up towards a corner double height balcony to get a view of the outside and ample windows allow ample natural light to infiltrate the open scheme of the house. The central courtyard with staircase connects all the 3 levels. Exposed brick & concrete finish and white plastered walls with greenery around induce a natural subtle ambience in both the interior and exterior. The wooden furniture brings in the warmth to the house. The design language throughout the house is intended to be simple and minimal that reflects the lifestyle of the client.
